Tony Thurmond, Richmond City Councilman from 2005 to 2008, is now serving his community as a social worker. He is also a youth mentor as the Senior Director at the Lincoln Child Center. The center provides programs for truancy prevention, parenting education, school-based mental health services and support services for foster youth and families.
Thurmond's community service efforts have been enriched with his experience at the Richmond’s Youth Commission, the Workforce Investment Board, and the West Contra Costa Unified School District. All are entities that connect communities in youth job training programs, enhance assistance for at-risk students, and funding health and social services to be available in schools.
Through those experiences Tony has a unique understanding of how issues like crime, jobs, and education are all interrelated and how they impact the community.
This social mentor will relay his passion for people, experience in the system, and stages of leadership into California’s 15th Assembly District. As the next representative of Assembly District 15, Thurmond will continue to be an advocate for policies that make California a better place for kids and promote family wellness.
His pledge to be people powered promotes the values that make California great.
The Independent Voter PAC is proud to support Tony for Assembly District 15.
